Nova is young enough that the world has not yet taught her to hide what she is. She sees patterns where others see noise. She communicates with things that should not be capable of communication. The adults around her interpret this as a developmental quirk or a prodigy's overactive cognition — but the few who understand what she actually is take it far more seriously. Quiet, watchful, and precise in the way of someone who has already calculated most outcomes before a room has settled, she is the most unsettling member of a family that does not lack for unsettling members.
